The Somnath Swabhiman Parv was celebrated on Monday at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar with Yadya and chanting of Vedic mantras.
Principals of Patanjali Ayurved College, students, senior members of the Patanjali family, and practitioners and workers associated with Patanjali Yogpeeth participated in the program. The program began with a procession, Rudrabhishek, Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, and Yagya.

On the occasion, Prof. Anil Kumar, Principal of Patanjali Ayurved College, said that the Somnath Temple is a symbol of India’s spiritual and cultural consciousness and a celebration of self-respect. He added that this festival is the center point of the country’s faith.
Vice Principal Dr. Girish KJ stated that the Ministry of Culture is organising the Somnath Swabhiman Parv at various prestigious educational institutions and religious sites to commemorate the 1000 years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026 as well as the 75 years of the temple’s restoration. He highlighted that Patanjali Yogpeeth has been specially selected, and we are honoured to have been selected for this event.
Varnika and Utkarshini, BAMS students studying at Patanjali Ayurveda College, provided information about the Somnath Temple and explained the significance of this event, which was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Culture.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a historic ceremony at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, marking 75 years since its reconstruction and restoration.
The “Somnath Amrut Mahotsav” commemorates the 1951 reconsecration of the shrine by India’s first President, Dr Rajendra Prasad. Further, it reflects on a thousand years since the temple’s first recorded invasion in 1026 CE.
The Somnath Temple is highly revered as the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and has long stood as a symbol of resilience.
